I spent much of my day working outside, with my hands, doing physical labor.
In contrast, much of my day-to-day work is spent inside doing intellectual labor.
Neither is more fulfilling than the other, truthfully. they both have pros and cons.
and similarly, they are both necessary for being a complete person, in the context of work.
there are many ways in life to learn the Lessons of Aesthetics. you should find a few ways that feel natural to you and really embrace them. I cannot overstate how easier it is to make The Right Choice when you know what that looks like. and figuring out “what something looks like” is often as simple as looking at it.
the issue is that few people, with the exception of great artists, are aesthetically literate in this way.
I will sit here and try to valuepost about how to fix this. I don’t know. and if I did, frankly, I probably wouldn’t tell anyone because I don’t think it’s something rigid and mathematical and technical that can be drilled and practiced.
one day you just wake up and get it.
or you don’t.
and that’s life.
