there are two things in life: love and duty.
they are often at odds with each other because they both require your attention, which we all know is limited and finite.
love is the internal sense of joy you get from a much-needed walk in the park. or maybe the taste of a good bite of food. or what it feels like on a warm summer day at the lake with a cold beer, grilled meats, and a breeze that just wants to tickle.
duty is what it feels like to get something done. what it feels like to lock in. duty is yelling at your friend who keeps making bad passes in the league championship. duty is telling your coworker directly and specifically where they messed up and how to fix it.
the thing about love is that it feels good and is necessary in the short term, and long term, but it can also make one soft and complacent.
the thing about duty is that it stings and is painful in the short term, and long term, but it can also make one resilient and accomplished.
in life, you have the things you want to do (love) and the things you are obligated to do (duty) and there are many times when they will not align. how you handle these moments will define you in the eyes of others.
